Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Most of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we need to keep away from them. At times, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at beating back depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you boost your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. Feeling famished can really make you feel terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest. You digest them quicker than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is truly great for your mood. You were just waiting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know it can help improve your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
