Information on How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

For the most part, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and should be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try eating a few eggs to cheer up!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are great if you would like to be in a better mood. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to better your mood. Feeling famished can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is really good for your mood. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier as well!

So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
