Information on How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Most of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to eat. There are several foods that basically can raise your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to find out, are fantastic at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you elevate your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all great for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of elevating your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.

Grains can be good for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel better. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. It’s not difficult to feel low when you feel hungry! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You were simply expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these hints instead.
