Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood

Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to eat. Several foods actually do elevate your mood when you consume them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at fighting back depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you improve your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Try eating an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Nuts, in addition to raising your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

If you wish to beat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

Grains can be great for driving away a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. Feeling famished can be awful! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is really good for your mood. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
