Use Food to Boost Your Mood

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we have to stay away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be super healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that really can improve your moods when you eat them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are terrific at combating depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating an egg and jolly up!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.

If you would like to defeat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.

It’s not difficult to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you be happier. They help you feel full too which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can be awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were simply anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
