Use Food to Elevate Your Mood

A lot of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is very true. At times, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you consume them, could improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try consuming a couple of eggs to cheer up!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all great for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel better. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly elevate your mood.

Some grains are really excellent for fighting off bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you be happier. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. Feeling famished can actually bring you down! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that it helps you to raise your moods also!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
