Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Mostly, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to learn, are wonderful at fighting depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try consuming a few eggs to feel better!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to combat depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.

It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. It’s easy to feel low when you feel hungry! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier also!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Test out these tips instead!
