Use Food to Improve Your Mood

Many of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we ought to stay away from them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be really nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that basically can improve your moods when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at dealing with depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the egg yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to boost your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel better!

Make a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.

If you want to beat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.

Grains can be wonderful for fighting a bad mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. They help you feel full too which can truly help to better your mood. Feeling famished can be a real downer! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard for your body to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is actually good for your mood. You were just expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Go with these tips instead!
