Discover How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Most of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be extremely healthy and good for you. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could boost your mood. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at beating back depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try consuming some eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a great protein source.

If you wish to fight depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

Some grains are really excellent for repelling bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you feel better. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. Feeling famished can be awful! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not hard to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is truly good for your mood. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You likely already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. And now you know it can help raise your mood too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
