Use Food to Boost Your Mood

Many of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must stay away from them. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be really nutritious and good for you. Several foods really do boost your mood when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to find out, are wonderful at combating depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you improve your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!

Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all great for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, on top of improving your mood, can be a great protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to beat back depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

Some grains are actually excellent for driving away bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you feel better. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you are starving! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You knew green tea could help you be healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try several of these instead!
