Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we need to keep away from them. At times, if your comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very healthy and good for you. There are some foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. You need to see to it, however, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Eat an egg and cheer up!

Make a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.

If you would like to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

Grains can be good for overcoming a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to improve your mood. Feeling starved can truly make you feel terrible! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is actually good for your mood. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to lift your moods as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
