Foods That Can Make You Happy

Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods honestly do improve your mood when you consume them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at dealing with depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you boost your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Try consuming a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to fight depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

Some grains are truly excellent for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping increase your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer too, helping you feel better. Feeling hungry can actually bring you down! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods also!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a few of these suggestions instead.
