Foods That Make You Happy

Most of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. Several foods honestly do raise your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are great if you wish to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

Some grains are really great for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping boost your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling starved can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were sure green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try a couple of of these tips instead.
