Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood

Most of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to consume. Several foods honestly do boost your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to find out, are terrific at fighting depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the yolk. Every time you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, especially the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for improving your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.

If you want to overcome depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. They help you feel full also which can really help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can really make you feel terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know that green tea helps you to lift your moods too!

So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try these tips instead!
