Use Food to Improve Your Mood

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we ought to avoid them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be really healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at dealing with depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you elevate your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Eat an egg and be happy!

Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a great protein source.

Cold water fish are good if you wish to be in a better mood. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you consume grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. They can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can actually make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is really good for your mood. You were just anticipating to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be better. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try several of these instead!
