Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

A lot of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are terrible and to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, can boost your mood. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are fantastic at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and feel a lot better!

Make a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Nuts, on top of elevating your mood, can be a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling hungry can really make you feel awful! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these foods more quickly than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body.
