Learn How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Many of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are bad and are to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. Some foods honestly do raise your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to find out, are fantastic at fighting depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you raise your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Consume an egg and feel happier!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.

If you wish to overcome depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.

It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling famished can truly make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel so much healthier. Now you know it can help you be happier also!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Test out these hints instead!
