Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood

For the most part, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really nutritious and good for you. There are some foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you battle depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Eat an egg and cheer up!

Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a super protein source.

If you want to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

Grains can be good for driving away a terrible mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling starved can be terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest them faster than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You knew green tea could help you become healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood also!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try some of these suggestions instead.
