Foods That Make You Happy

In general, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be extremely nourishing and good for you. There are several foods that really can boost your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you combat depression. You must see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and feel happier!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of improving your mood, can be a superb protein source.

If you would like to overcome depression, try eating some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.

Some grains are truly great for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling hungry can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is truly great for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier too!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Try these hints instead!
